Now that summer is upon us, it means VACAY & ROADTRIPS! One of the easiest things to do on those long car rides is to listen to music. We all listen to music, but we all don’t necessarily like the same type of music. Some of us like Country and others prefer to listen to R&B. No matter which genre is your favorite to listen to, they may not always be family friendly.
When you have young children in the car while traveling it is important to have child-appropriate music playing on the stereo. However, if you do not have the songs readily available to play through your car’s speakers, then it is always a lot of fun to sing them instead.
Singing with your children can keep boredom at bay, as well as, create educational opportunities during the car ride.
If you are unfamiliar with the songs we are about to list, you can always find them online and print them off or download the mp3.
- Tires on the Car - Similar to the song, “Wheels on the Bus” use the parts of the car for the song instead.
- Ants Go Marching - This song promotes counting and is loved by many children due to repetition.
- Itsy Bitsy Spider - If not the driver, use hand motions to go along with the song to keep your children engaged.
- On Top of Spaghetti - Sing all about how the spaghetti loses its meatball.
- If You’re Happy and You Know It – You can change out the word “Happy” to use other moods or feelings. Do facial expressions to show each emotion.
- Down By the Bay - You can certainly get creative with this one. It is often a popular choice due to repetition, but it also teaches children how to rhyme.
Make the time you spend traveling together fun, creative, educational, and memorable by singing these enjoyable songs.
