Gasoline Tips That Save You in the Long Run

Khelil Abida's Blog | Gasoline Tips That Save You in the Long Run

Gas prices always rise and fall. It is a fact that we have become accustomed to seeing. We may not control the prices at the pump, but there are a few things we can do to help save on the fuel economy of our own vehicles.

  • Only use the type of fuel recommended by the automaker. This will extend the life of your engine and ensure your car is running on the fuel they built it to run on.
  • Choose your fuel wisely. I would consider it wise to get to know your local gas station. Once you find a reputable one, stick to it. You can determine this by asking questions. Ask if the station filters its gas at the pump and if they change the filters regularly.
  • Don’t fill up your car if you see a fuel tanker truck in the parking lot. Come back another day. When the fuel is poured into the underground tanks, the force of gasoline movement can stir up sediments that are lying at the bottom of the tanks. This sediment can make its way through the gas pumps and into your tank. It can clog your fuel filters and injectors and cause lackluster performance in your engine. It can also result in repairs needed.
  • Don’t idle your car for long periods of time. Today’s car engines are built to crank and drive instantly. Idling for long periods is simply wasting fuel.
  • Keep a fuel log. An easy way to track your gas mileage is to keep a log either in your smartphone or do it old school with a notebook. You can keep it in your glove compartment for easy access if you choose to do it old school. Keep a record of when and how much you fill up your tank. If you notice a dip in your gas mileage, make a note of it and mention it the next time you take your car in to be serviced. You could head off a costly repair just by being cognizant of your car’s fuel economy.

Hopefully, you will use some or all of these tips and you can improve your vehicle’s fuel efficiency. It doesn’t require a lot of effort on your part to implement these tips, but it could save you money in the long run.
